We leave in 12 hours.
Its getting close to take off time…
I’m excited and super nervous at the same time. Anyone reading please say a quick prayer that we make it to our destination safely!
I’m 90% ready. I’m drying a load of my jeans, and I still need to put all of my clothes in the car. Everything else is packed and has been since last week! LOL. I also need to stop at Wal-Mart and pick up the stereo for Jose’s nephew, and I need to buy myself some more undies.
You can never have enough undies on vacation!
Hope to be updating with pictures soon. Adios!
Super long car trip.
The drive from Omaha all the way down to Lagos De Moreno, Jalisco takes about 30 hours or so. It kind of sucks, but due to the whole passport situation, we are stuck driving for now. We’ve done it before, and we’ve also done the 24+ hours to California a couple of times, so the girls are old pros when it comes to long ass car rides.
Today I picked up four new coloring books, and a super nice, Brainquest workbook for each girl. While at the Dollar Tree, I also picked up Glow Sticks, because I figured they would provide a bit of entertainment at dark. I added all this to the super cheap crayons ($.25!) and notebooks ($.15) that I had picked up at Wal-Mart earlier in the week.
I also bought some paper towels and also a 4 pack of toilet paper. Once in Mexico, you have to pay to use the bathroom. Actually, I’m not 100% sure if you are paying to use the bathroom or paying for the toilet paper, but for a couple of pesos they seriously hand you two squares of toilet paper. WTF am I supposed to do with two squares of TP, other then make a mess?!
Which is why I’m bringing my own this time!!
I also need to hunt up the charger to the portable DVD player. That thing is a freakin’ lifesaver! I need to see what movies we have here at home, and then see about buying a couple more.
So exciting…
I can’t wait until Wednesday!
Leaving on Wednesday!
Me and the girls are leaving for Mexico on Wednesday! How exciting is THAT?! We get to see Jose for the first time in over two months!! We also get to go to the beach, see his family again, eat delicious food, and go to the fair! I’m stoked. I have so much fun when we go to Mexico! The girls are going to have a blast, too. They keep asking me every few hours when do we leave.
I have the car packed. This is the first time that we will be going in the car. The last times we have went in the truck. I think the truck has actually been back and forth 5 times!! Me and Jose went once, we went twice as a family, and Jose has went twice. Wow!
Unfortunately, all of my suegra’s crap isn’t going to fit. Too bad, so sad. That’s why I packed a whole entire week early. I wanted to make 100% sure that everything I wanted to take fit, and it looks like we’re good to go! But two of the trash bags full of stuff that my suegra has gathered are going to have to stay here in Omaha.
I’m excited! I can’t wait to go!
Movie induced insomnia
I had a semi-stressful day today, and it sucked. Thank the Lord that I rarely have reason to get stressed out anymore, but today all the little things started getting to me and I almost threw a tantrum in the middle of the IRS office.
As I’m sitting there, stressed enough as it is to find reason to be sitting in the IRS office at all, all people around me were engrossed in cell phone conversations. No exaggeration. Every last one of them. So, when my phone vibrated, I figured it would be okay to answer.
Wrong. Totally not okay. I got chewed out by the front desk guy. When I started to protest, he shushed me! He put a finger to his lips and shushed me!
Ugh… so frustrating. At least I got my issue resolved in a pleasant manner. Even though it took a million years, and I ended up with a parking ticket since I didn’t feed the meter enough. I thought having my IRS issue resolved would cause the stress to just naturally melt away, but it didn’t. I then decided to take the girls to see “The Karate Kid”.
Best. Movie. EVER!
Okay, maybe it isn’t THAT good, but it was pretty damned good! Isabel loved it! Olivia wasn’t quite as enthusiastic about it. In fact, she fell asleep after the first hour or so, but I expected that. I thought it was amazing, and can’t wait until it comes out on DVD.
Yeah… so, in two hours Karina is coming to get me. Her daughter is having oral surgery, and I’m going with as a shoulder to lean on/translator. I don’t know what the hell I was thinking buying myself a frappucino at Starbucks around 9pm, but I just got done watching the first X-Files movie AND “Remember Me”, and I still have no intentions of sleeping. I guess I’m pulling an all nighter…
Its been awhile…
I might update again this late evening/early morning.
Adios!
It’s been a long, long time…
Well, I miss blogging. I find myself thinking of things to blog about, and then getting all disappointed when I remember that I don’t really have a blog to blog in. How sad is that?
This blog was “home” for a long time, and I feel confident in my decision that I can pick up more or less where I left off, and everything will be fine and dandy. Sound good?
I should probably give an update on things. Its been what… almost a year or more since I abandoned El Sueno? A lot can happen in a year!
Isabel, my oldest, started kindergarten!

And graduated from kindergarten!

We went to Mexico for Christmas, and ate some awesome comida china!

Olivia went to Catholic preschool (all day!), and got to wear super cute uniforms!

What else… I must not have had that exciting of a year if that is all I can think to update on!!! I have become slightly obsessed with childrens’ clothing, Jose is working in Manzanillo, and his family is as drama filled as ever.
More to come later! Keep reading!!
Don’t stop… Believing!
Just a small town girl, living in a lonely world, took the midnight train going anywhere…
Okay, enough with Journey!
So… at work the other day, one of my co-workers brought up white chicks who want to be Mexican so bad that it hurts. I felt my cheeks burning red. I know he wasn’t talking about me, specifically, but I still kind of changed the subject! LoL. Not that I want to be Mexican. I mean, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m perfectly comfortable with my white-ness. But some days I just think that being Mexican would be a hell of a lot easier…
Anyways, the co-worker was talking about an ex of his. He said she used to sit around and watch Telemundo all day, even though she didn’t speak a lick of Spanish. She even sharpied on her eye brows and changed her name to “Chula”. LOL!
Carlos? Ruby? :)
Jose, the same man who only six months ago was oh so adamant about NOT wanting anymore children, has suddenly had a change of heart.
Actually, the change wasn’t quite so sudden. I’ve noticed him bringing up the subject tentatively for about a month now, but I didn’t want to scare him off by appearing too over enthusiastic about the whole thing. Last night we spoke quite seriously about the it, and I couldn’t be any more excited! I just need to make an appointment and get this damned IUD out.
I know this is waaaaay too early to be talking about baby names, but I’m excited so you’re just going to have to deal with it.
Ruby is my #1 pick for a little girl. For a little boy, I’m thinking Carlos/Charles. Most definitely NOT another Jose. No Juniors for us.
Not much else is new… I’m working at a pawn shop now. Oh, the stories I could tell and I’ve only been working there for a week!
Peace, love, and chicken grease!
So… yeah.
Its been an eternity since I updated this ole blog here. Can you believe the infamous chupacabra post still fetches me over 100 hits on some days?? I’m proud of that! People don’t seem to stick around much, other than to read about the goat sucker, but its something.
Life in the Martinez household is the same. Girls are both in school now. Olivia is in all day pre-k and Isabel is in kindergarten. Isabel is (of course!) my goody-two-shoes and Olivia is little Miss Rezongona. I got a note home today about her talking back to the teachers. Come on, Olivia!! Give me a break, child. I thought back talk came a little later in life?
Jose is good. Working his butt off, like most Mexicans.
His family has changed some. One brother left back for Mexico. Another one (cough Rigo cough) is in jail. Me and the suegra have hit some rough patches, but our relationship still trucks along at that barely tolerable level it has been at for years.
My BFF got married. I’m a stay at home mom. Hmmm…
More to come later. Peace.
Poop!
Olivia (who turned 3 in June!) is officially a potty pooper now! She is pretty good about peeing on the potty, but has NEVER pooped on the potty. She would said she was afraid it was going to hurt. She would rather poop in a diaper. She didn’t want to be a big girl. So on and so forth!
Well, she has pooped on the potty TWICE now!!!!!!!!!! YIPPEE!!! This is one of the most exciting things EVER!
Movies, the Baile, and other randomness…
My girls are just getting to the age where they will sit through an entire feature legnth film at the movie theater. Isabel has been at this stage for a good two years now. Olivia still struggles a bit (towards the end she starts whining about the potty and when will it be over etc. etc.), but its close enough for me. Friday night, I took them to the cheap-o theater to watch Wall-E. Oh my God, I fell in LOVE with that movie. Olivia was not too impressed (and I didn’t figure she would be, after reading a few reviews), but Isabel enjoyed it very much.
LoL, I was also very impressed in the difference in the theater we went to Friday night (in a “good” part of town) compared to the theater in South Omaha. I will definately be paying the extra $.50 to go to the nicer theater! Nice, highback seats with the arm rests that go up and down! You get to put your own butter on the popcorn (Mmm… buttery goodness!!)! Nice booster seats. All this for $2 a ticket!! Fan-freaking-tastic!!! We will fo-sho be returning!
Saturday night was the Sonora Dinamita dance!! OH MY LORD I HAD A FREAKIN’ BLAST!!!
Here’s some pics that I took with my cell phone…
I felt so sexy all night long!! LoL, I love it when we straighten my hair!!
I wasn’t planning on drinking (Honestly!!) but that didn’t work out too well. I got pretty tipsy!! The good thing is, I only paid for one drink all night, and that was for my comadre!!
There were quite a few guys I knew (and some that I had just met) that were buying my drinks. At seven dollars a pop I was very gracious! My bank account thanks these men. My suegra even ended up going, and I was a little apprehensive at first, but once she got a few Coronas in her, she was as much fun as anyone else we were hanging out with.
Not much longer now until I move in with my mom. I’m getting really excited. LoL. I know that sounds lame, but I love being around my mom and dad. The girls are going to love it. My mom will hopefully love the extra help! I know she wouldn’t be keen on accepting “rent” money, so I offered to pay the cable bill and I plan on giving her $50 or so when she goes and gets groceries on Fridays, and then midweek I’ll make a stop and pick up any thing we might need.
Wish us luck! LoL! I HATE MOVING!!!
